On the shores of St. Augustine, Florida, you’ll find a recognizable lighthouse with beautiful landscaping and a haunted history. When Ghost Hunters aired an episode years ago showing what looked like a figure leaning over the railing in the lighthouse, we knew we had to add this location to our paranormal investigation list.

Location History
The current lighthouse was opened in 1874 as a beacon for ships at sea in a prime location that was used by watch towers and other structures since the 1500s. The lighthouse is rumored to be haunted and has been investigated by a number of ghost hunting organizations and television shows.
During construction, 3 young girls were killed as they played on the site. They regularly rode a supply chart down to the waterside for fun, but in a tragic accident, the girls drowned in the water. Over the years, those that have lived or worked on site have reported encounters with the girls from physical manifestations to giggling and childish pranks.
Our Experience
We arrived at the lighthouse and were given a brief tour and history of the location. We spent some time setting up static cameras in the lighthouse itself, in the living quarters of the keepers, and in 2 locations in the basement. In the 1970s there was a fire that destroyed the original living quarters, but the basement area is original and considered to be a particularly active area for paranormal activity.
We spent around 4 hours total investigating the lighthouse. We took time as individuals and small groups exploring each of the key areas and used a variety of paranormal equipment including REM pods, EMF detectors, thermal cameras, as well as video and audio devices. While we don’t conclude that feelings are evidence, we can attest that the basement gave off creepy foreboding vibes with its lack of light and intense silence due to the thick walls.
About the only experience that we had that was a bit strange was during one of the EVP sessions in the keepers quarters, Chris, Brian, and El were asking a series of questions. When we listened to the playback on site, we heard a bang that was not something that any of us remembered hearing with our own ears while recording. As we are not ones to jump to conclusions at every small noise, we are not calling this paranormal, but rather something interesting that happened.
All in all, we are glad that we finally made it to the lighthouse. We’ve heard the stories and wanted to experience the place for ourselves. The lighthouse itself is a beautiful structure and it was fun to have it to ourselves, climbing to the top in the middle of the night.
Did we capture Paranormal Evidence?
No, nothing overt. We heard a bang on our recording device that we couldn’t remember hearing when making the recording. That was strange, but likely not paranormal.
